“Why is the moon following me?”
My son asked this question just the other day as we were heading home. It’s been a busy work week, school week, and life week. I perked up and turned the music down. It’s fascinating to observe his curiosity. As my toddler gets older and older his world gets bigger and bigger. There isn’t a day that goes by where he doesn’t use a word I’ve never heard him use before or express himself in a way that I was not expecting.
I explained the best way I could about the Earth, the moon, and our relationship to the sun. He wants to travel there someday and I won’t be surprised if he does. The older I get, I’ve found myself more interested in ideas outside my everyday. The wonders of the deep ocean, the universe beyond my novice understanding intrigues me. Aside from getting older, the bizarre world we live in makes me look to the unknown for not just context in our existence but grounding as well.
There is a constant need for me to reflect and practice gratitude. It is through this practice that I am able to not become completely overwhelmed with the rising costs of groceries and the small, everyday necessities one needs to simply survive. It is through reflection that I am able to keep a positive outlook when challenges arise. My motto will forever be: I’d rather laugh than cry!
What about you dear reader? How do you stay grounded during such uncertain times?
“Why is the moon following me?”…such a beautiful question. His curious little mind is being filled daily with so much. What keeps me grounded? Well, it’s the youth? It is the idea that better is coming than what exists today. The world has changed so much compared to the world I grew up in. I’m hopeful that it will get better. Nature strolls, pushing myself through fitness exercises and reading all play a part in keeping me positive.
