Immunity?!

I’ll be the first one to look at the government with a critical eye. As I drive through my city and dodge potholes I lament about my tax dollars and question what they’re doing with the funds. Based on the history of this country I’m quick to read off a laundry list of my qualms. In the same breath I do not hesitate in recognizing the opportunities that have been afforded to me as someone who was not born here.

Even with all the roadblocks and hurdles, one may still achieve certain goals that in other countries may only begin and end as a dream. This country has a complex and rich history wrapped in human bondage, cultural assimilations, appropriation and dissimulation. With all that being said, it is also wrapped (in theory) with the belief that one may find upward mobility through education and pursuit of happiness. That is our right whether we are born here or not.

Imagine the shock I, along with many others experienced, when we learned that the Supreme Court has determined Presidents have immunity as it relates to crimes they may have committed while in public office. This is the antithesis of a democratic society. The beauty America has rested on is the belief that no one is above the law. That belief has literally just crumbled before our very eyes.

What does this mean for our country? As I type this I, along with all of you; know that our country is rife with a lot of political upheaval. We are divided in many ways all while the rapid advancement of technology (specifically AI) is changing the very core of our society.

How will this look for our citizens moving forward? What inalienable rights will we see disintegrate with the Court’s most recent ruling? I’d love to hear from you dear readers, until next time; blessings.

  1. The Supreme Court’s recent ruling definitely has me baffled. It almost appears we’re in what would resemble a movie. It astounds me that we now live in a society where laws may not apply to individuals in public office. Just think of the potential tyranny or even societal upheaval a wrongly elected candidate could bring into their presidency. I really hope the Supreme Court knows what they’re doing because this is a landmark ruling. That ultimately will cause a ripple effect that will affect generations.
