I have been thinking a lot about the current times we are living in. It seems to me we are on the precipice of history as it relates to who we are as humans. There is so much happening and a part of me questions if there was always something going on but because we live in the age of social media it seems non stop when in fact it’s always non stop; we have images, soundbites and clips constantly being presented on our timeline. I do not think we are biologically designed to have so much content present in our lives all the time.
The culmination of the Covid-19 pandemic, inflation, environmental issues as well as social justice issues has literally been sucking the life out of us. We are now at a point where we must consciously be intentional with our actions and how we spend our time. If we are not careful we can find ourselves down a rabbit hole of isolation, depression and anxiety. We must actively surround ourselves with people and things that bring us joy. It’s so easy to get caught up in the ways of the world that make you question: What’s next?
I remember two years ago, I told a friend I was waiting for the aliens to land, because really what else was going to happen?! This has me thinking, what will our world look like in 50 years, heck what about a 100 years? What would I want the future to know about this time? What items or symbols would go in my time capsule?

Below is a list of six random items I would put in my time capsule to represent the current times.
Liposuction Cannulas Set
After a short trip to Miami a few weeks ago, I saw a woman in a wheelchair being rolled into security. I could see the pain on her face as she got up gingerly to go through security. She had fluid drainage contraptions attached to her. It was an interesting sight to behold and I tried my best to not stare. I have chosen the liposuction cannulas set to represent the high number of women and men whom undergo plastic surgery.
Eye Enterprise VR System
Gamers have now taken the metaverse by storm. With everything that is happening in our “real” world I can’t fault those whom chose to enter virtual reality through gaming. From novices to experts, many have been jumping on a wave of virtual reality to escape their current reality. I have been curious about the metaverse, but I’m not 100% there to take the plunge. I still want to keep both feet grounded in this reality.
Cryptocurrency
Cryptocurrency has forced us all to look at how we use currency. I wrote about NFTs and cryptocurrency here. A time capsule without any mention of cryptocurrency would be incomplete. This new way of exchanging goods and how we view currency has turned the financial world upside down. Currently, there is a lot of controversy around crypto because there is very little regulation around it. Companies pop up and also deflate before they really get started. For some (like myself) I am not 100% sure how it works or how I can get into the world of crypto without losing all my tangible money.
Face Mask
We couldn’t leave a face mask out of the time capsule. The face mask as become synonymous with the times we are living in. There are disposable masks, cloth masks, masks to match one’s outfit and masks that may represent one’s interests. I am prone to disposable masks because that makes me feel more secure to throw the mask away after a day. I never thought I would see the day where young children would also wear masks as a daily part of their routine.
AR-15 Rifle
This style of gun has been used often to murder innocent people whom are going about their everyday life. Whether it’s grocery shopping, attending classes, outdoor concerts, church and parades, rifles have been used to kill as many people in one area. The US has seen gun violence after gun violence almost everyday. It’s overwhelming and traumatic. This item has to be in the time capsule as it represents where we are as a nation. The controversy of gun access, the right to bear arms and the need to protect the innocent people have left this nation extremely divided.
Sea Level Rise Map Viewer
Let’s stop the malarky. Climate change is real. The Earth is getting warmer. As a person born on an island, it saddens me to know that there may be a day when too much of the ice caps melt and many islands will no longer exist. What can we do? I know we need to get on one accord as a global community and unfortunately we are not there yet.

What about you dear reader? What would you put in your time capsule to share what’s happening now to the people of the future? I can’t wait to read what you will share! Blessings.
Love it, cuz. Keep up the excellent work.
